Are soap opera writers writing under intoxication?

My mother watches the soaps everyday, you cannot say anything to her about them, but isn't it obvious that they need better plots? and don't you leave the room scratching your head or forgettting what you got up to do? :) It seems to me that there are alot of insane people writing for television. You wonder what thoughts go through their minds at the time they put there fingers to the keyboard. For one example, stepheno demero on days of our lives has been struck by lightening, killed many many times too many to still come back and ressurect himself to destroy more lives or his son tony.
Don't you also think it's funny when you know what the persons going to say before it comes out of their mouths? Like "if it's the last thing i do" or "i will love you for the rest of my life"
There's one that comes on in the afternoons on NBC called passions, and a old witch controls everyone and has demons in the basement that should tell you something.
