Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Reiki in the treatment of fibromyalgia (FM), a condition characterized by widespread muscle pain and stiffness, often accompanied by sleep disturbance, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, and psychological distress. Reiki is a form of energy medicine in which practitioners reportedly access universal life energy to heal patients, either by direct contact at specific hand positions or from a distance.

Fibromyalgia is one of the most common rheumatologic diagnoses. Treatment is generally unsatisfactory and most randomized, controlled treatment trials have been unable to demonstrate a sustained effective intervention. A vast body of anecdotal literature as well as two randomized controlled trials suggest that Reiki may be an effective treatment for FM, appearing to relieve pain and improve psychological well being. Reiki appears to have no adverse effects and can eventually be self-administered, making it a low-risk, low-cost, potentially patient-empowering intervention. This study will investigate the efficacy of Reiki in the treatment of FM.

One hundred Reiki-naive FM patients will be recruited from a chronic fatigue referral clinic and will participate in an 8-week trial. Patients will be randomized into one of two Reiki groups (direct-contact and distant Reiki) or one of two control groups (sham and placebo). Patients will receive either Reiki or placebo 16 times during the course of the study. Patients will be assessed at study entry, at Weeks 4 and 8, and 12 weeks post-treatment.

Ages Eligible for Study: 18 Years - 70 Years, Genders Eligible for Study: Both

Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

Fibromyalgia without concurrent medical conditions associated with chronic pain, such as diabetic neuropathy, systemic lupus erythematosus, or severe degenerative joint disease
Willing to undergo randomization and attend treatments regularly
Willing to stay on a stable medical regimen during the entire 8-week trial and use only acetaminophen for breakthrough pain
Live within a one-hour drive of the study site
Exclusion Criteria

Received Reiki or any other energy medicine (Therapeutic Touch, Qi Gong, SHEN Therapy, etc.)
Pregnant
Pending litigation or disability claim related to FM

obstructions

What do you do if justice has been obstructed? When you know there have been things done to you and your loved ones by one loved one that isn't so loveable? You know things that they do are never told or said anything about, and never forgiven. eventhough you can't stop asking or saying i am sorry for getting on the internet too early. Then blaming someone of something and embarrass them so badly that they can't show their face, when they haven't done a thing, then they go to church and they pull a clinton. "I have sinned" when things come out. Then, they use these things to totally embarrass you and make you out to be something you know you aren't. But you realize a few things....you could never be as sorry as they are with or without religion, and your reputation that's been a good one is ruined because of them. Then you realize the cycle of how this "slug" operates. They operate based on your emotions all most like a leach in need for fresh blood. They call they will make little insinuations, they will act perfect to make you fall when you know..when you know.

awareness

I may be a little on the nutty side, but i know situations that have been going on, and i know somethings in this world will never be made right, eventhough we want them so badly to be made right. Why can't God see through it? Why can't God see through the situation and what is going on? See who people are? Why? I may do my goofy little retarded things, but i am not out there completely. I may be a little defensive a time or two, but for protection against being twarted and for those who might get twarted :)) but I am tired of it, i am writing it down here. Sometimes bad people always get away with things while the good people always get murdered.

character

Not perfect, but one goes through so many changes til they get this bit of sand in the shell, it builds up and develops a pearl, a pearl is a good thing, but the pain of going through the discomfort of that grain of sand being in your shell, brings discomfort. But a pearl cannot stay in a shell forever, The oyster has to be cut open and the peart released from misery of being entrapped in a ugly shell.

Injustices

What do you do if injustices have been done to you and your loved ones by a loved one? :( Do you try to write it off, do you dismiss it for the sake of those around you. What if you want justice but justice never exerts itself. If they have done it twice, they will do it again and again. So I ask God right now to please justify the situation God. I know i have said that reiki, eastern, and etc. There's one true God and I hope that he will realize the situation and clean the mess that has been made up.
I don't understand what had went on, and I still don't, and I probably never will, but I hope God is listening and will see the situation through and see the inside situation :) correct it, and let it go.

the way God made me

Not self serving or self righteous thought. Not trying to impress anyone, not trying to be self centered, just trying to please more than one person and myself at the same time. Why not be happy with the way God made me. Thank God i have 10 toes, two eyes, a nose, and two arms. There are some self adjusting techniques that can help oneself out. So what if my hair is long, i can put it in a bun, so what if i have a heavy chestline, i can find ways to fix that too, and as far as aging goes, you can fix that too. So there are things one can do to fix themselves without dyes, scissors, and surgery. :) thank God. :) :)

dirt

There was a movie that was a little on the nasty side a few years back called joe dirt. No one liked him, cause he was different, he was always put down, for those differences, and somehow found his place in this world. Everyone has a place in this world, just like every single thing serving a purpose of some sort. A grain of sand on the ground is the same grains of soil that holds a plant together, and that plant in the ground serves a purpose perhaps as a herb that cures the sick, and that grain of sand, is the same grain of sand that's in a stone, and the same dirt runs through our veins. That means everything is worth a second glance, a second thought, rereading, and perhaps refurbishing/revamping. :) take care :)

thrifty

Sometimes it pays to be thrifty :) i found a black and decker hand vacuum for only 5 bucks at a flea market and it works terrific. :)
